Open Rehearsals 2012/13

SHOW #1
Carmen Townsend, Ben Caplan, and Carleton Stone

Friday, November 16, 2012, 10:00 am Dress Rehearsal
Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Halifax

Featuring: Carmen Townsend, guitar/vocals
Ben Caplan, guitar/vocals/piano
Carleton Stone, guitar/vocals

Carmen Townsend has a fierce, earthy voice that calls up the blazing rock legends of yesteryear. Ben Caplan's sound is rugged, raspy, and roaring with charisma, in the grand tradition of his idols Tom Waits and Freddy Mercury. And Carleton Stone is a high-spirited performer whose smart, infectious music sparkles with youthful energy. Together, these three Nova Scotia rising stars collide with Symphony Nova Scotia in one of the freshest, most powerful collaborations of the year.

SHOW #2
Lennie Gallant

Friday, January 18, 2013, 10:00 am Dress Rehearsal
Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Halifax

Featuring: Lennie Gallant, guitar/vocals

One of Canada's most iconic singer-songwriters, PEI's Lennie Gallant has been called "a rare talent" (Dirty Linen Magazine) who puts on a "powerhouse of a show" (Chronicle Herald). With nine albums and a host of awards under his belt, this 15-time ECMA-winner brings his unmistakable mix of folk, rock, Celtic, and country to Symphony Nova Scotia for the first time since 2004.

SHOW #3
Jan Lisiecki Plays Chopin

Wednesday, April 10, 2012, 10:00 am Dress Rehearsal
Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Halifax

Featuring: Jan Lisiecki, piano
Bernhard Gueller, conductor

Since Jan Lisiecki's spectacular debut appearance with Symphony Nova Scotia two years ago, this teenage superstar has toured three continents, signed on with one of Europe's top record labels, and performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras. Jan has been called "one of the most sensational artists to emerge in Canada in the past decade" (CBC). Now, 17-year-old Jan returns to Nova Scotia, this time to join the orchestra in its first-ever performance of one of his favourite concertos - Chopin's energetic, virtuostic Piano Concerto no. 1.
