Ivor Rothwell, Principal Bassoon

Ivor Rothwell has been Principal Bassoon with Symphony Nova Scotia since 1985. He has also been a member of the Calgary Philharmonic and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. 

Ivor is active throughout Halifax as a teacher and chamber music performer, and specializes in the baroque bassoon. In partnership with Symphony Nova Scotia violinist Karen Langeille, he co-founded the baroque ensemble Réjouissance, specializing in the performance of 17th and 18th century music on period instruments in historically informed style.

In addition to the baroque bassoon, Ivor has also mastered the dulcian (a 17th-century precursor of the baroque bassoon) and the recorder.
